Things to Consider Before Buying a Wood Burning Stove
It’s an exciting time when you are looking to buy a wood burning stove. However, as excited as you maybe, there are a number of issues you should consider before buying such.
.
Booking a site survey – Before an installation of a stove (or any heating appliance), you should have a site survey. The purpose of a site survey is to check the suitability of your home for the appliance you are interested in getting. The site survey needs to be done by a HETAS registered installer.
.
During the site survey they will be able to advise on the appropriate size stove for the room, or indeed if fitting a stove in your particular room or home is possible. Having a stove, which is too large for the room will make it uncomfortably hot while a stove, which is too small will not produce adequate heat to heat the room.
.
During the site survey if the potential install is new, the engineer will identify the requirements for the appliance in relation to the flue system, ventilation, clearances and fitment etc. If the install is replacing an old appliance, any required changes to reflect the requirements of current Building Regulations will be noted. The site survey will also indicate if you are in a Smoke Control Area, which means you are only allowed to burn authorised fuels and use exempt appliances. A site survey can be arranged by a local showroom. To locate a showroom near you, you can use our showroom locator here.

Know the stove design you want – Do you want a multi-fuel or wood burning stove? All the stoves in the Charlton & Jenrick range are multi-fuel. So although you may wish to burn wood only, you are able to burn other fuels too. In terms of design we have a wide range of stoves to suite all design ideas and budgets.
.
Our stoves have a 5mm or 10mm thick laser profiled and seam-welded steel construction for strength and life. They also have a powerful and effective Airwash System, which helps keep the window of the fire clean. Our PureVision stoves are also compliant in relation to the proposed European Eco Design 2022 Regulation. We are one of only a few manufacturers to be able to say this. We have both built-in and free standing stoves.

Knowing where to buy – Knowing where to buy is vital. Buying online for example, although it maybe cheaper, can be a false economy, especially if the retailer can’t offer a site survey, or does not fit the appliance. Our extensive range of showrooms will be able to provide the essential site survey, and then fit the appliance, using a Gas Safe registered engineer. You can read more about the dangers of buying a stove online – here.
