The Heating & Hotwater Industry Council (HHIC) who are the trade association that represents the whole of the UK domestic heating market, has commissioned Enertek International, who are independent research consultants.
Their job is to look at the benefits of using a gas fire, as a single source of heating, as opposed to replying on central heating alone.
The research will be looking at typical heat loss from a 1950’s house in winter, autumn and spring weather conditions, under specific space heating scenarios.
In recent years the energy efficient of gas fires has significantly improved. Some of the gas fires in our range have an efficiency level of up to 90%, which is a significant level of efficiency in comparison to an open fire for example, which has an efficiency level of just 20-25% at best.
A gas fire, which has an energy efficiency of 90% means 90% of the heat created by the fire is used to directly heat a room, with only 10% being lost.
A gas fire is a highly effective source of heat when the entire central heating system is not required, which is one of the reasons why this research is so welcomed. We believe that heating energy efficiency is the way forward, and if this research proves us right, it is another strong case of evidence for the use of gas fires as a single source of heating in the home.
The results will be available towards the end of the summer – we will eagerly await the results.
