Small is beautiful, too.

Despite glossy interior design magazines depicting glorious homes with enormous lounges and huge stoves, you don’t actually need any of these to enjoy the charms of a wood-fired heat. Having a too large a stove for a room is completely unnecessary.

Here are a few advantages of a small wood-burning stove:

Efficient Heat
Provides a high heat output relative to its size.
Retains and radiates heat for a long time, keeping the space warm even after the fire dies down

Cost Effective
Uses inexpensive or even free fuel (if you have access to wood). Reduces dependence on electricity or gas heating, which is true for all stoves. Also, a lower heat output will mean it will need less fuel.

Space Saving
Fits well in small homes, cabins, boats, or vans. It can be installed in places where larger stoves wouldn’t be practical.

Regardless of the size of your room, there is a beautiful stove that is perfect for you.

Basic calculation – what stove size do I need?

Measure the room volume you want to fit the stove in. (width x length x height) in metres.
Divide the result by 14.

For example, if you have a small room that is 6 metres wide, 5 metres long and 2.5 metres high, you will do the following calculation – 6 x 5 x 2.5 = 75. Divide 75 by 14 = 5.35. So you would be looking for a stove with around a 5kW output. This is only a general guide – there are other variables, such as how well insulated the room is, how warm you would like your room to be etc. When you have a survey, you will then have a better understanding as to the perfect stove for you.

What small stove options do I have?

A small stove is generally considered to have an output of 4-5kW. Below are just a few examples to whet your appetite. For a full range of our wood-burning stoves, please visit our dedicated stove section.
